Same issue here in October trying to build in retropie 4.4

Same issue with me. Building on retropie 4.4. Tried it from a fresh retropie install too and it still won't build. I noticed get the error "makefile:50: recipe for target bgfx failed" during the build process

since bgfx is not used in libretro port , i bet we can just remove it! https://github.com/libretro/mame2016-libretro/pull/25

Had the same issue today and noticed that it was looking for python2. Had to install it and the build worked.
