Does this game even work properly with regular Glide64 and standalone Mupen64?

I never tried standalone mupen so I install it and you're right the game doesn't start.

This is one of those infamously "hard to emulate" games, along with the likes of Rogue Squadron, Gauntlet Legends, World Driver Championship, etc. It CAN and DOES work on standalone Mupen64Plus, but only through the use of an LLE video plugin, such as z64 or Angrylion's plugin. I'd imagine once the latter is done being integrated on the libretro port, it will work, just very, very slowly.
