My purpose: Identify five ways to strengthen open source communities

  1. Build your contributor's confidence by reducing technological and psychological barriers.
  2. Provide your contributors with a contributor ladder that gets them over the learning curve and helps build their momentum.
  3. Plan a little to make ad hoc decisions the exception and further build contributor confidence.
  4. Assign responsibilities collectively - no project is truly flat and wishing does not make it so.
  5. Create an environment where people want to be - what that means is up to you and them (e.g., beginner friendly, sense of belonging, provides clarity).
  6. Invest in your community
