The GNU Make and MXE notations sometimes look clumsy. :(

Perhaps a more modern cross-compilation environment is available? For example, Conan.io looks promising, but I'm not sure this fits our needs.

MXE is good for now, and is certainly more appropriate for our needs than jhbuild.
