Support for Paddle as a payment processor? #18

My company is registered in Estonia, a country where Stripe is not available (and I don't hold much hope it'll be anytime soon).

Paddle ( https://paddle.com ), however, is. Paddles is less like a payment processor, and more like a shop that 're-sells' your software. It also takes care of VAT for you, which is quite nice. More expensive than Stripe though.

Anyway, Paddle supports splitting funds between vendors ( https://paddle.com/docs/api-custom-checkout/ ), and I was wondering whether that could work for licensezero somehow. I'd really love to sell my project via licensezero, in addition to directly via my website, but obviously, without Stripe that is not possible.

Totally understandable if you don't want the additional complexity involved in adding another payment processor. But I figured it's worth suggesting at least...

@makkus thanks for this issue, and for mentioning Paddle, which I hadn't seen yet.

I've definitely been thinking about alternative payment processors. For example, I'm pretty sure that PayPal is available in Estonia. While I've personally had terrible experiences with that company's credit offering, I also believe they offer functionality that would allow licensezero.com to initiate payment transactions on behalf of developers' PayPal accounts.

If I bite the bullet and try to support PayPal payment in addition to Stripe over the weekend, would you be willing to help me test it?

Hi @kemitchell yes, PayPal is available in Estonia. To be honest, I wanted to stay away from them, if possible heard a lot of horror stories about them, esp. their support. But it might well be that those stories are the exception, and it works fine most of the time. Anyway, yes, I'd be happy to help testing at least, if we find a time that is convenient for the both of us. I'd have to setup a PayPal business account first though, I assume? Haven't done that yet.

My experiences with the technical side of PayPal have been good. My experiences with the marketing, support, and customer-relations parts of their operation have been abysmal. The words "PayPal Credit" still make me angry.

It may or may not be possible to do with PayPal what I'm already doing with Stripe. The main temptation is jurisdiction support. PayPal has way, way more flags than Stripe.
