I just noticed this issue on lichess main repo which may affect the discussion here: https://github.com/ornicar/lila/issues/2231
@moustachio-belvedere The only way this will happen is if Apache Cordova, which the lichess app is based on, gets KaiOS support. If that happens, it should be straightforward to port. If not, very very difficult.
Just a drive by comment, but KaiOS is based on FireFoxOS, which in turn can be made to work quite well with Cordova Apps: https://hacks.mozilla.org/2014/02/building-cordova-apps-for-firefox-os/
This is all a bit outdated and untested, but there is a good chance it will run if adapted a bit.
Somebody made lichess client for KaiOS: https://www.kaiostech.com/store/apps/?bundle_id=kaios.app.kchess
I'm submitting a feature request
Feature request
With the recent release of the Nokia 8110 4G, and the demise of my smartphone, I am considering moving to the world of KaiOS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KaiOS). There is increasing interest in the OS and Google has recently invested a large sum into its development which is promising for longer term stability.
However I would greatly miss the lichess app. So I am opening this feature request to hopefully initiate discussion on developing a version of the app for KaiOS; whether would be feasible, how much work would be involved and if there enough interested people to make it happen.
I should note that I have experience developing in Python, Julia and a bit of C++, so I'm not sure how much I can contribute myself (although I am trying to learn javascript/typescript at the moment, slowly).
