Still there is no fix for this.
I am upset because I love Chess 960 and I want to play rated games.
I am thinking about pulling my funding now.
What is the money for if there is not any development? The servers? Sure, but then why can't the servers track ratings for variant games? This makes no sense.

Ok, I see rated games have been discontinued for variants. Why not just separate variants into different speed games like in standard chess? Or, whatever, why does it matter who is on the leaderboard? Now there is no leaderboard at all. How does killing a feature help solve a problem with that feature? Why not leave it alone with the problem of fix the problem?
It seems there are still rated blitz or bullet 960 games... so if you want to eliminate the rated correspondence games then don't let that be an option when you are choosing games.
And I still see my preliminary 960 rating with a ? but it never changes since I am not playing fast games. I'd like it to go away. Why not retroactively readjust all ratings from correspondence games? I have a low rating because I was learning and now I am much better but I can't do anything about my rating.
There are many ways to fix this, some easy, some hard. I really hope this is solved.
As it stands, being able to choose a rated game then have it switch to casual is simply a BUG. I mean, it is not as the user would expect and it seems like an error in the system. At LEAST that needs to be fixed.
After a new rated game for Chess 960 (and I have heard with other variant games too) starts it turns to casual every time. There is no way to play rated 960 games anymore. This is happening systemically, not just in the mobile app but in browsers too.
There is a thread the on lichess forums about this here: https://lichess.org/qa/5235/not-able-to-select-rated-in-one-variant
