Hi timmyknuckles, can you confirm something real quick - this issue occurs in the lichess app and not a browser, correct?

Correct.
Do you experience this behavior when using different headphones. What about the iPhones built in speaker?
Do any other apps exhibit this behavior on the problematic headphones? What sound set are you using?
Sorry for the barrage of questions, just trying to isolate.
No apology needed. I have not experienced any problematic behaviour with any other apps. However I sometimes notice a second after moving a piece a barely audible "pop" sound that also occurs when opening YouTube or Spotify apps, or before/after pausing/resuming playback, which suggests something is switching on/off.
I have tested and confirmed the issue with two sets of wired headphones. Interestingly I just observed now the behaviour does NOT occur with a Bluetooth headphone connection.
Playing through the built-in iPhone speaker exhibits no issues.
I assume I'm using the default sound set as I wasn't aware you could change this.
Interesting. Could it be a hardware problem with your DAC? That’s a little chip that lives just inside the 1/8” TRS port you plug your headphones into. Doesn’t sound like a lichess issue.
Do you have an iPhone with built-in headphone jack or are you using a lighting to headphone adapter?

I’ve tested on an iPhone SE as well, same thing occurs. Perhaps someone else can test to confirm.
Occurs with and without lightning adaptor.
Timmy, just letting you know: I had to borrow some wired earbuds to reproduce this but there is definitely an issue and it is exactly how you describe. (Was skeptical as I couldn't get it to happen on my wireless buds).
IOS 15.3.1 iPhone 8
The following occurs when using headphones (I tested wired not wireless):
When moving pieces on the board, I noticed sometimes the piece-move sound isn’t occurring.
It seems if there is no additional user input after approx. 2 secs, the headphone output is muted and the next triggered sound doesn’t occur, as the headphone circuitry doesn’t switch back on quick enough to play the sample.
If I keep moving pieces rapidly, the sound never cuts out.
Perhaps a solution would be to have silent audio sample running regularly so there is always some audio running and the headphone does not mute.
