Feat: Public simuls for the people #11904

Open schlawg opened 1 year ago

schlawg commented 1 year ago

Seems like a lot of users would enjoy hosting and joining public simuls at lower rating ranges where the host is not titled. These everyman simuls would be in a different list than the featured simuls, and basic filtering options would also be useful.

If this has been considered or implemented in the past and maybe was removed/rejected for some reason, what's the 411 on that?

It used to be that way. All simuls where shown.

As a result, there were a plethora of available simuls, that nobody would join.

Hosting a simul might be fun, but joining one isn't: you have to wait while the host is playing other players. People only join simuls when they know the host.

@ornicar i personally think hosting is lots of fun and we should find a way to do it (I already submitted to Lichess a bunch of ideas for how to do it without it being an overwhelming list).

and joining is fun too. I think that’s a little subjective to say it isn’t :)

I find it fun whenever the host is seriously strong, like an IM, for example.

Thanks

agreed

I find it (joining) fun whenever the host is seriously strong, like an IM, for example.

That's why only titled host simuls are displayed. They're the ones people want to join

I understand. I do think there is place for the public too. Please see linked comment. Thanks.
