As I wrote on the Lichess Discord, I could imagine something like this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/352965935809691658/653993534109777921/unknown.png
A new tab in the top row that says "Variants", and leads to 9 new QuickPlay buttons with the most commonly played variants Or perhaps just the 6 buttons for ZH/960, and the top row instead is a big red disclaimer stating smth like "THESE ARE CHESS VARIANTS; NOT THE NORMAL GAME!" to ensure new player don't get confused?
Yes I know Hyperbullet is technically not a variant, but I didn't know what else to put there :p
👍+1 I like this idea.
Toyed around a bit with having the presets above the lobby for variants, as below. Not a complete solution, but maybe will inspire an idea in someone:
As per WFM https://lichess.org/@/Funkmaus request I paste here her comment https://lichess.org/forum/lichess-feedback/not-enough-chess960-tournaments?page=7#69 "Whoa gbtami - what is this? Is it the idea, which I have mentioned in #62 already been recorded? Thanks for that link; I actually thought about having one/two customized buttons for quick seeks, but that is even better!
There is an image... existing time controls for "normal" chess - and above the tab "Variants". Should be added! This: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/352965935809691658/653993534109777921/unknown.png Would be great since that is not only about chess960 but for all other variants people individually prefer.
How can I raise my voice? Must register somehwere? Sorry but I have no clue about those issues and they actually kinda scare me... Anyway, count me in - feel free to repost this post in my name if its possible."
If the lichess team decided putting two or three 960 quick pairing buttons, they'd suddenly have much more people playing that.
As of now players are forced to go through creating/searching a custom game to play them. It makes it harder to quickly find someone of a similar level, especially at a desired TC. Of course most don't bother with it.
