@guarin finish writing issue and add subissues

Tasks

• [ ] Lint the codebase and fix bad mistakes (unused variables, unused imports, …)
• [ ] Add pylint to dev dependencies
• [ ] Do this on a per subpackage basis
• [ ] Check how much effort it would be to enforce linting
