Chromecast - duplicate entries appearing as casting targets #512

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I'm trying to cast videos from YouTube application to TV using Chromecast. I
observed that Sometimes YouTube app display duplicate entries as casting
targets and same issue is observed in 'Play Music' app as well.

What is the reason behind it, is there any bug with YouTube app or Cast SDK?
OR
Do I need to update any services to prevent this?

Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a discovery issue. Have you looked at the discovery
troubleshooter? https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/discovery
However, the YouTube app doesn't necessarily use the same discovery mechanisms
as other Chromecast apps, so you should contact the YouTube team regarding that
issue. If they can confirm that this is a Chromecast issue, let us know and we
can reopen the ticket.

I compared the YouTube app with MediaRouter sample app and observed that
MediaRouter app just displaying actual chromecast devices whereas YouTube app
displaying duplicate devices at the same time.

Posted query to YouTube Team but they are not responding. :)

Are you sure that YouTube app use different discovery mechanisms instead of
using google-cast-sdk mechanism?

That was confirmed by Ali Naddaf. According to your most recent comment, the
issue seems to be showing up on YouTube v10.05.6 and not in v5.3.32, which
suggests to me that this is a YouTube issue and not a Cast issue. If you find
an issue that directly relates to the SDK, feel free to bring it up here.
Otherwise, please continue to post your questions and concerns on Stack
Overflow.
