Zerg race selection when joining a LAN UDP game is broken

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. set race in bwapi.ini to Zerg; auto_menu = LAN; lan_mode = Local Area 
Network (UDP); 
2. comment out the map selection so this broodwar instance joins the game
3. create a lan game from another VM or PC.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The broodwar instance from 1. should join the game and auto select the Zerg 
race. Instead it stays at random, i.e. race selection is broken

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
BWAPI r4025, embedded AI module; Win XP
