These changes improve signal handling to make the tcp server easier to manage when running it under Docker.

@vainu-arto thank you for updating! I have some not-committed changes similar to yours. So I'll commit them into develop branch and close your PR. You can check them and tell if something is wrong. I'll release this changes in about a month if everything is ok.
