The current definition of congenital malformation is: A structurally anomalous
part of an organism acquired during fetal development and present at birth (but
not necessarily hereditary) which is hypothesized to be harmful for the
organism.
I think it should be modified to not specify that it is acquired during fetal
development, but rather that it is acquired during the development during which
it develops, as not all anatomical structures are present at birth. An example
would be hypodontia in which certain teeth fail to develop at all leading to a
malformed dental arch.
