Communicate better that users need Circuitscape 4, on their machine, not 5. #98

This can be in the Pinchpoint Mapper User guide and also on the error message that occurs if Circuitscape 5 (julia) is being used.

And, from a closed issue: "Currently, that location is : https://circuitscape.org/downloads/ and be sure to use version 4 (i.e. 4.0.5) if you want the version that is known to be compatible with Linkage Mapper. V5 is written in Juluia and needs to be testd and integrated with Linkage Mapper still.

OR, if you would like the most current version with a bit more error message detail, you can use v4.0.6 which is not formally published yet, but is here, and is based on this issue."

This issue is based on this comment on the google group: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/linkage-mapper/SKxGvqEzwdc/5mGByuZPDQAJ

and this follow up: directly to Caitlin:

Hi John,

I only had the most recent download of Circuitscape (Circuitscape 5.0, 64-bit Windows) on my computer at the time that it failed; it would fail and say "Cannot find an installation of Circuitscape in your program files directory" after only a few seconds of running Pinchpoint Mapper. The tech specialist at my university also tried moving the Circuitscape file around on my computer to more accessible places where he thought it might try to call it from, but it kept failing.

After I downloaded the Circuitscape 4.0.3, 32-bit Windows version, it ran fine! Maybe it is just an issue with the new 5.0 version combined with the latest version of ArcGIS? I am not sure!

Best, Caitlin

You are welcome!

it has been a while since I looked at the Pinchpoint mapper user guide. Did it point you to the old version of circuitscape, which uses python (the one that works with linkage mapper), or did it just say to download circuitscape? If the latter that is a prob, since the new version of circuitscape is not compatible with linkage mapper yet.

Thanks,

John

I had the same problem. I recently used Pinchpoint mapper arctool to find pinch point ,it said:"Cannot find an installation of Circuitscape in your Program Files directory".I have already installed the circuitscape v4.0.5. Does it matter where the software is installed? how did you solved this problem?

Linkage Mapper looks for _csrun.exe in one of the following directories:

\ProgramFiles\Circuitscape\
\ProgramFiles(x86)\Circuitscape\

circuitscape for python is v 4.0.6 here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eDCRWjhZRtUU0hPuccCU_uVvSProMSHM/view

based on this conversation: https://groups.google.com/g/linkage-mapper/c/serHDMw5xr8/m/GRkllkC6AgAJ

Also, get this onto our webpage, and maybe the python branch in our repository?
