This is a minimum to get it working again. I have disabled translations, help and the update checker, but the desktop icons do work on Linux now.
It includes the fileutil, containers and bookmarks code deleted from linkchecker (#3).
I've added it as a branch here, because it does need pretty much all of this to work and I'm not sure I will do any more on it, even a review.
