Need ambiguity note type and ask for it in AAT #256

Open beaudet opened 5 years ago

To allow for recording confidence in statements, we should create an ambiguity note and ask for a term in AAT to represent it.

Maybe we can start listing cases: does this include "circa" dates?

Do we have a way to indicate other types of uncertainty such as provenance of data? Or when names change (e.g. Saint Petersburg became Leningrad, which became Saint Petersburg).

P.S.: I sincerely apologize if my message seems curt. I'm receiving too many messages to deal with each one as I used to. If you require more information about the specific content of my message please speak with me in person. For transactional messages I recommend an article in the Harvard Business Review at <URL:https://hbr.org/2016/11/how-to-write-email-with-military-precision>.

There's now "possibly": http://vocab.getty.edu/aat/300435722

Which would be appropriate to use as the classification of an AttributeAssignment. That said, this pattern is very verbose and we should be careful that we don't turn everything into an attribute assignment. We've avoided going into detail on uncertainty, I think we should continue to be very restrained in our meta-meta-data.

At SARI we do have selected and created set of attributes for defining five type of issues with our information:

We did kept it simply in order to flag the type of ambiguity problems in our data, specifying if something is unknown, not certain or not precise. We do use it as a type and the vocabulary are present here:

https://github.com/swiss-art-research-net/vocab/blob/master/uncertainty/uncertainty.ttl

Example in the slide below, where we defined the time as imprecise and added the "circa" as rdfs:label
