Thx

Update: "==> dkms install --no-depmod v4l2loopback/0.12.7 -k 6.8.1-arch1-1-surface Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 6.8.1-arch1-1-surface (x86_64) Consult /var/lib/dkms/v4l2loopback/0.12.7/build/make.log for more information. ==> WARNING: `dkms install --no-depmod v4l2loopback/0.12.7 -k 6.8.1-arch1-1-surface' exited 10"

So no v4l2loopback device ist created during kernel install. thx again

this is an upstream problem. In arch the temporary solution is to install the v4l2loopback-dkms-git package from aur

Thank u for the quick reply. Can confirm that this solution works for surface go. Regards

gmasarotto commented 1 month ago

The v4l2loopback-dkms package in arch/extra has been updated to the 0.13.x version which is compatible with the 6.8.x kernel. So, it is possible to switch back to the official package which at least for me works on my SP5.

Any idea when/if will this package (v4l2loopback-dkms) get updated in Ubuntu (23.10)?

Moreover, I can still use the cameras in Cheese, and can see them in helvum.

Of course I can't use the loopback device to make the camera available to Chrome, which doesn't support pipewire. But I am not able to use the cameras in Firefox either (on https://mozilla.github.io/webrtc-landing/gum_test.html, I get NotFoundError: The object can not be found here.).

Just rebooted back to 6.7.9-surface-1 and cameras can be used in Firefox normally.

Confirming this issue in Debian 12 Using 6.7.9-surface-1 I can build v4l2loopback-dkms
