Interesting that hasn't been noticed before...
Same comment over at bugs.gentoo.org actually. Then again, the problem would only be visible on gentoo hosts using the latest unstable util-vserver and restarting them all using that particular initscript (or rebooting).
Well, that is the initscript that has been shipped since October of 2013. Not exactly a recent change.
Maybe, but the first "official" ebuild to incorporate that iniscript is pre3062 and that has only been in portage for a little under a month.
As explained on the mailing list, the gentoo vservers.default script is broken as it does not source for the util-vserver vars. This simple patch fixes the problem.
