Does this happen with all cinnamon "desktop" themes, including Mint-Y? Is there a similar delay when opening the default menu applet? Does it happen every time you open the menu? Does turning off "Use menu animations" (behaviour tab) option make a difference?
Thanks.

I use Mint-Y-Dark and happens on it. I did a quick test changing to Mint-X, Mint-L, cinnamon and Linux Mint desktop themes; the same issue happens in all of them. No, there is no delay nor freeze with the default menu applet. Tested having both on the taskbar, the issue only happens on Cinnamenu. Yes, it happens every time, when opening the menu both by clicking with the cursor and by pressing the 'Windows' key on the keyboard. I had the "Use menu animations" turned off by default. Tried turning it on and then off again to test, in both cases the delay still happens. When the option is turned on, it freezes the split second before the animation starts.
Cheers!
Tbh, I have no idea what might cause this.
