Desktop zoom scrolls underlying content #10148

I'm using Linux Mint 20.1 with Cinnamon 4.8.6, on a fresh out of the box install. The kernel is 5.4.0-74-generic.

I've ensured the touchpad reverse scrolling setting is disabled, and I have enabled the desktop zoom setting, with the mouse wheel modifier key set to .

On my Dell XPS laptop, while holding Ctrl and scrolling the trackpad up + down on web pages (certainly in Chrome 91), the underlying web pages will scroll while zooming in and out.

It's not just Chrome... even the built-in System Settings app and the Software Manager app will scroll while zooming is happening.

It's really disconcerting to have underlying window scroll at the same time as the zoom is happening, so would be fantastic to be able to disable this feature if possible.

This seems to be identical to issue #5163, but that was closed (although it's unclear why - several people had said they could reproduce the issue).

I'm happy to provide any more information if needed, tweak any settings, etc. to help try and resolve this.

Many thanks!

Dan

Perhaps this is one for a separate issue, but I've also found that when the menu is open, Desktop Zoom doesn't seem to work at all (e.g. on the All Applications menu, the submenu scrolls but no zooming takes place).

I'm using Linux Mint 20 with Chinamon 4.6.7 on my desktop PC.

In can confirm this issue when using ALT+scroll to zoom in and out using my mouse. I'm using the Chimamon desktop zoom for many years intensively (I'm visually impaired). This issue has been there in all versions o Chinamon I've used through the years as far as I can remember. This annoying behavior of the desktop zoom is a frustration I've had to learn to live with. If there is anything I can do to help out in debugging and/or testing fixes, ,please let me know.

Regards, Bart

I've just upgraded to Linux Mint 21 with Cinnamon 5.4.12 and kernel is 5.15.0-50-generic, and the problem is still present in Chrome (which has been upgraded to 106.0.5249.119 since the initial bug report).

@ I dont know if it also works with touchpads but assigning the shift key, within accesebility options, instead of the ctrl key for zooming worked for the mouse.

I added a write-up with some findings about this bug to #11728.
