Visual indicators for caps lock/num lock, volume and brightess not showing despite being turned on #10242

 * Cinnamon version 5.0.5
   - I am not using the daily builds PPA
 * Distribution - Linux Mint 20.2
 * Graphics hardware Intel HD Graphics 5500, driver i915
 * 64 bit Intel Core i5-5300U @ 2.30 GHz
 * Attach ~/.xsession-errors, or /var/log/syslog

Issue On my Dell Latitude E5550 laptop, I have activated visual indicators for whenever I turn caps lock and num lock on or off, but, since a recent update to my system, the visual indicators are no longer showing up whenever I press the caps lock or num lock keys. In the meantime I have used audio indicators as a replacement while I wait for this bug to get fixed. Visual indicators for volume and brightness are also not currently showing up.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to accessibility and then go to the 'keyboard' tab.
  2. Turn on "Use visual indicators for Caps Lock and Num Lock"
  3. Press either the caps lock of num lock keys.
  4. (FOR VOLUME AND BRIGHTNESS CONTROLS) Press Fn key then F2/F3 for volume down/up, or F11/F12 for brightness down/up. Normally, a visual indicator should appear.

Expected behaviour Normally, an indicator with the caps lock or num lock icons should show on screen to confirm that you have turned on caps lock and num lock.

Other information I have also found out that the visual indicators for volume controls and brightness do not show up either, which may also be related to the issue here.

Can you post a screenshot of what themes you are using? Can you also post the output from ~/.xession-errors? Thanks.
