[REQUEST] Power Manager #10644

Open bananabob opened 2 years ago

 * Cinnamon version (cinnamon --version)
   - Please specify if you are using the daily builds PPA
     (https://launchpad.net/~linuxmint-daily-build-team/+archive/ubuntu/daily-builds).
 * Distribution - (Mint 17.2, Arch, Fedora 25, etc...)
 * Graphics hardware *and* driver used
 * 32 or 64 bit
 * Attach ~/.xsession-errors, or /var/log/syslog

For those of us with laptops that are not able to utilize TLP to switch on and off charging of the battery would it be possible to add messages/notifications to the Power Manager at user set percentages with the defaults at 40% for low battery and 80% for charged battery. These should show the current percentage of charge in the messages/notifications and require the user to click "OK" so that they are actually recognised or send the desktop applications into the background like an alt/f2 does until the battery changes status from charge to discharge or vice versa. This feature would also need to be switched off for those that do not require it.

Thanks

I'm not sure I understand this correctly, but I think #10634 might be related

I am not sure what #10634 means but it sounds like it could be what I am looking for. I just want to be able to know/stop my battery charging at 80% and restart at 40% and do not have access to TLP as I do not have a Lenovo laptop.

Lurux commented 2 years ago

Ok so these are different issues - I thought you were talking about power profiles, but if I understand correctly you actually want to limit the charge level of your battery.

Also TLP is not limited to Lenovo laptops, is it not able to do that ?

bananabob commented 2 years ago

TLP will run on other laptops it just will not control battery charging, only Lenovo provides that firmware (I think its is called)

I should add that even if power manager only puts out a message at 40% and 80% would be good enough. If that is all that can be achieved. There is BAM (applet) which puts out a message at 40% but not at 80% so it is possible.

I have currently installed and am running a script to monitor my battery usage. A copy is attached here. I start it using the Startup Applications in the Setups. Just to show what I am talking about and what I would like to see in Power Manager. battery.txt .
