[BUG] Power management inhibit turns itself off #11116

Cinnamon version 5.4.11 Mint 22 NVidia GTX1660 driver 515.65.01-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 64 bit

Issue

Inhibit applet turns off power-management inhibit by itself.

In order to keep my VPN connection to the office live I routinely use the applet to inhibit power-management during the working week. When I leave my desk I power-off the monitors. However, since upgrading to mint22 I find that the inhibition of power-management keeps turning itself off. This happens when I turn the monitors off. This is 100% repeatable if I follow these steps:

  1. Check the power-management inhibit is on.
  2. Power off the monitors (I have dual screen)
  3. Leave the system for some period of time (I've not determined the minimum period but an hour is more than long enough)
  4. Power the monitors back up.
  5. Check the power-management inhibit and it will now be off.

So if I forget to turn the inhibit back on then the next time I leave my desk for any length of time the system will have suspended and I'll have lost my VPN connection.

This worked perfectly in mint21.3 (and indeed all previous version since the applet was introduced). It appears to be a regression in mint22.

To work around the issue I've had to disable suspend in the power settings.

@robertwhitton I had a similar problem with similar hardware. My issue was that Cinnamon kept restarting due to memory consumption (aided by the Nvidia drivers) and upon restart, the inhibit applet was reset to its default state. Have you checked to see if this is what's happening on your end?
