Bugs in Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon desktop environment #11308

Open Endorphas opened 1 year ago

Endorphas commented 1 year ago

Hi everybody!

I discovered some blemishes on the freshly installed Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon.

Scenario 1:

  1. Click and HOLD the left mouse button -> Any file or folder (Nemo or Desktop) OR click on an empty area of the desktop OR click on an empty area or a button within a program.
  2. Click and release the "superkey" ("windows key" or "tux-key") (Cinnamon main menu opens.)
  3. Now release the left mouse button.

The Cinnamon main menu no longer reacts to any selection and remains in the foreground until the "super button" is pressed again.

Scenario 2:

  1. Right-click and release on the desktop (regardless of whether it is an empty area or an object).

The brightness AND the volume can no longer be controlled via the FN key until the selection is deselected again with the LEFT mouse button. (Fn-key (hold) + Fx keys (press); depends on the keyboard)

Scenario 3:

  1. Left click on the calendar OR the battery icon OR the volume control OR the network icon OR the eject icon OR the notification icon in the taskbar and release.

The brightness can no longer be controlled via the FN key until the selection is deselected again with the LEFT mouse button.

I was able to reproduce the bug.

It looks like a problem with the focus on those sections. When you release the left-click on the mouse, the focus is probably sent to the desktop; therefore, it is no longer on the menu.

Thanks for confirmation.

That will probably be the problem.

It may be worth mentioning that I had previously ran into scenario 1, if not at least the same end result of scenario 1 with the Cinnamon main menu being "stuck" in the foreground without being able to interact with it, but this was achieved with a touch screen tablet device instead by simply touching the "Cinnamon main menu" icon on the panel via the touch screen... but it seemed to not be just that and required some other prerequisite to occur as, when repeating the task after a reboot, the issue wouldn't occur.

I wonder if the unknown prerequisite in my case was to first click on an item on the desktop use the mouse, and then touch the "Cinnamon main menu" icon via the touch screen... but I do not have access to the touch screen device in question at this time, so I cannot confirm/refute if this is in fact the prerequisite step that I was missing.

Interesting, it might be the same bug. Maybe someday you will have time to try scenario 1 with the mouse as well. (And the keyboard, if you're using a keyboard with the tablet.)
