Display brightness reset to 100% after reboot when using proprietary NVIDIA display driver #11883

Bug description

When rebooting after adjusting the display brightness, the brightness is reset to 100%. This only occurs when the proprietary NVIDIA display driver is installed.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Make sure proprietary NVIDIA display driver is installed.
  2. Adjust display brightness.
  3. Reboot system.

Expected behavior

The display brightness should be set to whatever value it was when the system was last shut down, regardless of which display driver is being used.

Additional information

This issue also occurs when using Cinnamon with other distributions, such as Arch Linux.
