Supporting Cinnamon #11981

Hi, I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you for all the hard work you've done on Cinnamon over the years! It's been a huge part of my computing for a very long time.

I was wondering if you'd ever given any thought to setting up a GitHub Sponsors or OpenCollective? I was looking to see if I could contribute towards Cinnamon in this way, but wasn't able to find anything.

I've used OpenCollective as a maintainer of the Svelte open source library and might be able to help answer some questions about it. We've raised over $100,000 this way never being pushy about it or offering things in return, but have a great community that has stepped up to support us. The funds have helped us have some maintainers spend more time on the project and funded some expenses we've had related to hosting, etc.

I'm not as familiar with GitHub Sponsors as it's newer. From a quick search it looked like it may be free and OpenCollective charges 10%. I do know OpenCollective has infrastructure around it to manage expenses and show how money is spent and without looking into it I don't know whether GitHub Sponsors has the same.

If you go to the Linux mint organization on GitHub, there is a tab called sponsoring, where you can sponsor Linux mint, and if you want to sponsor cinnamon, you can sponsor a maintainer, that mostly focuses on cinnamon.

@benmccann If you'd like, do your research to find online who collaborated on Cinnamon more. Sponsor HIM through his GitHub if you wish :)
