Screenshot from 2012-12-23 00:32:09b As you can see in the top right corner of the uploaded screenshot, after updating my cinnamon from version 1.4 to 1.6 the application icons displayed in the tray icon are converted to single gray boxes. I don't know when this issue occurs but it happens sometimes. I'm using Cinnamon 1.6 on LMDE x64

In my Cinnamon it happens when I rearrange the applets. After restarting Cinnamon everything is OK.

I notice it occasionally when I edit/rearrange the tray then some icons go gray. After restarting Cinnamon it comes right. I'm using 1.67.

I can add the following information.

I am running Cinnamon 1.6 backport in Mint 13. I am using DarkGlass 1.6 theme. I have two icons in the system tray. One is the Update manager, the other is Gnote.

I experience a problem where the gnote icon is just a thin yellow line - This happens all the time (see the image)

systray

I also have the gray box experience and found that this is caused bu using panel settings to move icons around as soon as I move an icon - it need not be the system tray but could be the Trash icon - the update manager icon in the system tray changes to a gray box. (see image)

grey box

The same happens for a different user, and I have tried several themes and it occurs with them.

I'm also having "the grey box experience" for icons in the system tray using Cinnamon 1.8.8 (on LMDE).

Like others on this thread I have noticed this occur when

Sometimes the grey box covers the whole system tray icon (this happens in the case of the MintUpdate icon), but in other cases it cover half the icon (and appears to shift the icon off-centre) as in the case of the Pidgin system tray icon the below screenshot: screenshot from 2013-06-25 16 34 12

I had the same issue. Searching for a long time I had found that solution and worked for me: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/pull/851

Sadly not for me. http://forums.linuxmint.com/download/file.php?id=24520&mode=view I have no systray icons, also my terminal and conky windows are invisible unless Cinnamon crashes. Fallback mode works fine. Everything 'works' fine, it's just not being displayed - and it's not an issue with sizing because I reset all and created a new user before this problem occurred - it's systemwide.

Although I still have a lot issues with the system tray I haven't seen the grey boxes for a long time now, is this still an issue for some of you in latest cinnamon 3.0?
