I just installed Cinnamon through the Debian Unstable repos. Whenever I go into a Cinnamon session, everything seems to work fine until I do anything with the panel. If I bring up the menu, the desktop will freeze and not accept input. I can see psensor drawing it's graph in the background, and the clock applet is still ticking, but nothing responds anymore. Once there was graphical corruption of the menu. If I switch to console and then back, Cinnamon sometimes will give me the error screen.

Here is my xsession-errors file:

I installed the Muffin, Nemo and Cinnamon debug packages. This time when I logged into Cinnamon, the panel acts like it's working, but doesn't respond when I click on it.

Here is the .xsession-errors file so far:

I got to the panel settings through the desktop background dialog and switched it to top and bottom panels. After restarting Cinnamon, the panel worked for selecting windows, but again everything became nonresponsive after opening the menu. The log again:

You need cinnamon-session. It sets up a couple environment vars for cinnamon that will fix this.

To test, run:

CLUTTER_DISABLE_XINPUT=1 cinnamon --replace

keantoken commented 10 years ago

Well, cinnamon-session is not in the Debian Unstable repositories, and since that breaks Cinnamon, I think that is a big fat bug.

leigh123linux commented 10 years ago

@keantoken Your bug report should be filed against the offending debian repo, not here.

keantoken commented 10 years ago

I could point out this package is missing, but I only know that because you guys told me. The most I can do is tell the Debian repo guys to talk to the Cinnamon guys once I figure out where I can do that. Sorry I'm a bit helpless, but I'll probe the Debian IRC.

keantoken commented 10 years ago

Well, the Unstable repo has a very old version of Cinnamon. It looks like no one is bothering to keep it up to date:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?dist=unstable;package=cinnamon

So it looks like I will be compiling from source unless there is a Debian PPA for Cinnamon 2.
