System tray no longer uses GTK theme after 3.0 update #5238

My system tray no longer incorporates my gtk theme after the 3.0.1 update. Example:

steammenu

I installed steam today to test this. It seems that it works fine in some themes such as Mint-X and Numix but not others like Adwaita. My other tray icons, Hexchat and Mintupdate, seem unaffected.

I thought it could be a possibility, but I didn't know for sure. So it is probably the theme's problem vs cinnamon itself being an issue?

It would seem so. One of our Mint gtk themes works and one doesn't. Since I have to fix the one that doesn't I'll see if I can find out what the difference is.

Be sure to let me know what you find, I am still having trouble spotting where this broke

I also have this problem with several icons which are under System tray control. Those which use different applet are not affected like Audio, Network etc. Effected ones are Telegram, Steam, Bluetooth, Redshift icons.

For me it trigerred when I tried to restart cinnamon by "cinnamon --replace". And man do I regret executing that damned command in terminal.
