Add file indexing and finding (through menu) to Cinnamon. #9181

This is a feature request.

I love Linux Mint and Cinnamon, but in every installation I have to basically replace the menu functionality with another application, like Albert, so I can have the functionality I need and that other desktop environments have implemented.

Basically, I would like to have (optional?) file indexing, so that if I search the partial name of a file it would come up in the menu for quick-launching with the appropriate app. Currently, Cinnamon only remembers the recently accessed files.

Here's an example of the kind of results I would like to have show up: image

It would be really great to see this. I wonder if it is not the case for performance reasons. If that is the case, we could imagine a compromise : When you enter a file path in the menu and press enter, that location is opened in Nemo. It could even have an autocomplete feature when pressing tab just like a shell. If not an absolute path, it could be relative to the home directory by default.

EDIT : It is actually possible to do just that. You just need to right-click on the menu applet -> Configure... -> "Menu" tab -> "Enable filesystem path in search box" under the "behavior" section. It even defaults on the home folder for relative path. No tab completion of any kind though.

Right now I'm using Synapse, which uses the Zeitgeist engine to do its thing and honestly I see absolutely no performance loss or anything. It's pretty fast and snappy.
