Feature Request - New Cinnanon Settings module - Panel layouts #9226

Hi,

Currently in Mint users can switch between two default panel layouts / applet loads via the Mint only Welcome Screen. Cinnamon users on other distros don't have a GUI tool to switch between preset panel layouts.

I'd suggest deprecating the Welcome Screen switch and instead building a standalone layout switcher Cinnamon Settings module that would be available to Cinnamon users on all distros. Out of the box it should allow for several stock layouts along with the ability for distros to easily add their own distro default layout(s). It should also facilitate end users saving their own customised panel layouts for later restore via the GUI

Thanks,

That sounds great.

Great idea!

Rik Shaw, the Wasta Linux dev made a cinnamon-layout tool in Zenity. It is sort of like a mate-tweak equivalent but I don't want to add stuff that takes away from the "lightweight" factor

I'm trying to work on this right now- would it be better as a standalone app (like cinnamon-settings-users) or it's own cs-settings module?

It could also be integrated with cs_panel.py and have another section. That would have to be open to further discussion.

Or, this could be a spice that comes with a GUI to do this (Not sure if that is possible but it might be) ![Uploading Screenshot from 2022-06-15 22-56-27.png…]()

When I suggested it I envisaged the GUI as an extra section in Panel Settings, but any of those options would work. I think it could probably be done as a Cinnamon Extension as-well - not 100% sure.
