BBC is geo-blocked so unless you have a UK IP address, it won't work. Example (LMDE6):- Screenshot from 2024-02-19 19-38-04

I note that on the screen in your pic, it states that bbctwo is geo blocked. There is no such writing on my screen here

I also communicate with a UK resident, who has the same problem.

He has tested numerous times (no vpn) and gets the same result. zero.

I thought it was just me for which it did nothing useful. I tried for the first time after upgrading to 21.3 and it didn't work.

I think I may have a different config file - there was a bit of a row made by its supplier a couple of years ago, but I thought I changed it back. My current set-up says:- TV channels (all countries) - 15478 TV channels (UK) - 208 Movies - 232

Checking "Providers" - square icon next to 'cog' icon:- Screenshot from 2024-02-20 12-28-36

Screenshot from 2024-02-20 12-18-28 "Edit" of first entry:- Screenshot from 2024-02-20 12-21-14 "Edit of second entry" Screenshot from 2024-02-20 12-23-23

Sorry to be so verbose here... In the screen that lists the two providers, that I have, It is essential to select the second one - the one with 15478 channels, not the one with 1584 channels. It is only necessary to do this once, since it seems to get stored somewhere. This displays in a different country format :- 2 columns whilst the 'live-tv' provider uses 4 columns.

I think this is a bug.

So here's a screenshot from the USA, trying to access USA channels. It's consistent across my devices.

Interesting. I use Linux Mint and have today upgraded to the latest version 21.3 - 6.0.4 and it mentioned Hypnotix - so I thought I would try it out.

Some of the channels work (I am in the UK and was NOT using VPN on this), but none of the ones which start off with the 92.114.05.xx ip address as the server do anything.

When I try to visit this IP range with http I just have a blank screen, if I try to view via https it tells me that there is no connection. (Firewall is not blocking it).

Other channels seem to mostly work - but a HUGE number of channels seem to use this 92.114.05.xx service provider that is either down or is being blocked.

This seems more about "failed IPTV server" than a bug as such, but I would be keen to hear of any updates please.

clefebvre commented 5 months ago

Yeah, if this isn't a geoip block it's an issue with the provider.

We only care about the software itself here, we don't provide TV channels.

GuyMarkTee commented 5 months ago

I don't think people were expecting you to provide TV channels.

But I suspect they were not expecting it to come jam packed with a load of broken channels serviced by dead servers as the default either.

Condobloke commented 5 months ago

Yeah, if this isn't a geoip block it's an issue with the provider.

We only care about the software itself here, we don't provide TV channels.

This from a member at Linux.org: Until recently I have used Hypnotix successfully to watch tv but in the last few days it will not play any of the uk stations & relatively few from around the world, the m3u link listed on the github page is the same as that installed in the player, I don't know if it's meant to auto update itself or if I need to obtain a new m3u link for it but I have no idea where I would get a new link from. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks.

This issue persists.....not only with this particular person. The problem appears to somewhat widespread. I experience the very same issues in Australia. The person who wrote the above is in the UK. A reinstall of the software has had no effect. The issue persists.

Suggestions that BBC is geo-blocked so unless you have a UK IP address, it won't work., ....met with "Dose'nt ring true, I am in the UK, I didn't use a VPN when I tested it, and I still could not get any UK stations [just tested again ..still nothing]"....this from an experienced user. @clefebvre, kindly, reopen this topic, please. ?

GuyMarkTee commented 5 months ago

Yes, I think the topic was closed prematurely. If the software comes pre-configured with settings that guarantee failure for a massive number of channels, then from any reasonable users point of view - the package (as-is) doesn't work properly.

I am also in the UK and geoblock is not the issue, simply that almost all of the UK settings are simply dead / out-of-date / broken.
