Booting the 32 Bit ISO from USB Stick does not display the GUI, just same garbage for 0.5 sec.

Terminal secession with Ctl Alt F2 work --> Startx command see screenshot

Do you need additional info? Linux Mint 19.1 Mate installation and LMDE 4 USB Live works with ThinkPad T43p with no problem.

Please have a look at the second screen- an other problem?

Option 2 Start LMDE 4 in comp... Boot to GUI okay, shutdown does not work ( looping? )

Option 4 Start with PAE forced ==> GRUB error: loading /casper/vmlinunz failed: no such file or dir....

The CPU looks like a Intel Pentium M 770. It is 32 bit only. forcepae should not be needed, it is enabled in the CPUID.

@Rainerds could you check in the BIOS under PCI Devices or System, if the make and model of the graphics card is shown? The screenshot you shared only shows the VESA Bios but I can't tell the graphics card from that.

From Lenovo's specifications for this laptop series and your VESA Bios showing 128 MB video memory I think your graphics card is a 128 MB ATI Mobility FIRE GL V3200 (which I think has a Radeon X600 chip as core). Can you see something like that under PCI Devices or System in the BIOS?

I think maybe you need firmware-amd-graphics for this. Edit: that is installed in the ISO.

firmware-amd-graphics is installed by default in the ISO afaik @xenopeek

@Rainerds have you tried booting LMDE 5 in compatibility mode?

The nmi watchdog: watchdog detected hard LOCKUP on cpu 0 error on your second screenshot suggests a problem that maybe compatibility mode can bypass.

LMDE5-Beta-Grub-menue

Booting the 32 Bit ISO LMDE5 Beta from USB Stick does not display the GUI, just same garbage for 0.5 sec.

now start a terminal secession with Crtl Alt F2

now issue the " lspci -vv " command

  1. boot to grabage screen / no GUI

  2. Ctrl Alt F2 open Terminal session and issue "startx" command

From my tests with LM5-Beta , i found EE Type messages in the Xorg.o.log of LMDE5-Beta ( see my other post the attached log file )

I'll close this since it doesn't lead to a bug fix resolution. It looks like a hardware support issue, I'd suggest troubleshooting it on the forums.
