Funny, I though Linux Mint was about users...
Not even a comment in 10 days...
I don't see what's funny. You're getting a comment now because of your sarcasm. I personally read your report 11 days ago and I'm taking some time to answer here because I don't think your comment is fair.
We read every report and receive a lot of feedback, we're grateful to everyone who writes to us or gives us info but we can't always afford to acknowledge it or engage in a conversation with people.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention and making sure we read it. You didn't troubleshoot the problem to see what the cause was.. so that's something we'll do at some stage when we get a chance.
Thanks for the answer.
Without any answer, I have no clue that anyone is even considering the issue. My sarcasm was at least helpful for me as I got an answer telling me it will be looked at (even at a later stage).
As mentioned in my first message, I'm available for any experimentation not breaking my machine.
I added some information on the linux mint forum: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=107036&p=617819#p617747
Thanks.
Can't reproduce with en_IE.
We'll try to reproduce this in a VM with fr_CH, en_CA and de's "quertz" layout.
Either it affects some layouts and not others, or (more likely) it's a case of keyboard layout working fine but not specifying either its variant or its physical layout.
We'll try to get to the bottom of this before Mint 14.
Just installed Nadia cinnamon edition on the same PC and I have the same issue.
Could it be related to these :
I have the same problem. It is still there in Olivia with mdm 1.2.
I have done some testing and it seems to be a problem with some Logitech-Keyboards (I use a Logitech MK700/MK710 with german querz layout): If I use another standard keyboard with german layout it is working fine. With both keyboards connected I have done some more tests: The Logitech keyboard has still the wrong layout. But after pressing only one key on the standard keyboard also the Logitech keyboard uses the correct layout.
I use lightdm at the moment. There the Logitech keyboard is working fine.
I have a logitech k400. I had the same trouble with french layout, I found this: edit /etc/mdm/Init/Default and add "/usr/bin/setxkbmap fr" before exit 0 . Change fr for german layout (de).
Thanks, this is working fine.
Hi,
Do you have any of the following files on your system?
/etc/X11/Xkbmap /etc/X11/Xmodmap ~/.Xkbmap ~/.Xmodmap
And if so, which ones, and what info is written in them?
No, I have non of these files.
I have the same problem with a Logitech K270 edit: thank you micky45 for the trick, it is working
Same problem with Linux Mint 17. I have a DE_de keyboard configured that works well on console login. But with MDM login it seems to use a completely different layout that prevents me from login as I miss some chars of my password. :-1: System is a Lenovo L520 laptop, german layout.
Same problem with Logitech MK520 it layout on Linux Mint 16 and 17 MATE.
I just stumbled upon the same error. Everything worked fine the last weeks. But since yesterday my keyboard layout at login screen is english, while it is correctly set in console/after login.
I also have a logitech wireless mouse/keyboard attached.
Can I be of any help?
For me the tip from micky45 solves the problem.
I had the same problem with a Logitech K750 i found the solution on this forum : https://www.linuxmint-fr.org/forum/demarrage-et-connexion-veille-extinction/150905-resolu-clavier-en-anglais-au-login it's french i can translate if u want
@Guiom79 thank you, it works!
However, I would suggest to fix this to automatically set the correct layout. If a user is not aware of the problem he may experience unexpected behaviors and do not understand the reason.
It looks like the issue is in Xorg and it affects the Logitech Unified receiver. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/995715
I'll try to get this fixed in Mint 18, either by:
Hi,
Sorry this took so long. It's great that we had a workaround in the meantime.
I was able to finally test a Mint 18 installation with an alpha ISO (please don't ask about this, they're not public), and I'm happy to confirm this issue is no longer present.
The test was done with an MK270 (Logitech wireless keyboard using unified receiver) and with a standard installation in French. Upon reboot, everything was using the French layout, including the login screen.
I can't say for sure whether this bug should be marked as fixed: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/995715
But in any case, this issue was indeed upstream and it's fixed now.
I still can't reproduce this issue, despite some people telling me it's still there in Mint 18...
This commit explicitly sets the layout:
https://github.com/linuxmint/mdm/commit/a293167340624021e1b379118a647a97da9dd550
@clefebvre I see this behavior and can reproduce it:
I have a similar issue (in Mint 17), using K750. I have the correct layout for some time, and after a while, it switches to US layout automatically. I noticed it happens even if I don't press anything.
To correct this, I have to type a key each time (on my laptop) to trigger my layout back, then continue to use the keyboard.
hello,
as stated here (french) and here there seems to be an issue in the keyboard layout in MDM (and GDM) depending on some hardware configuration.
I want to be able to use my swiss french layout but it only provides me the US qwerty.
I have:
I mention the keyboard as it seems that the issue was not there with my old USB keyboard.
I am willing to help testing if it does not break completely my setup (don't want to reinstall).
Should you need more information on my setup, don't hesitate to contact me.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that except MDM (or GDM) the layout is the expected swiss french (console, after login...)
