One more thing, if I may. To wit: problems with the Dropbox icon on Mint go back to 2014 and Dropbox itself disclaims responsibility (on the basis that Mint is unsupported).
I see to have discovered (or rediscovered) a solution. To get a proper dropbox icon, install the nautilus-dropbox
package (which will remove the dropbox package, but will work). Does the Software Manager install that package by default? Even if it does, I will leave this issue open because (1) synaptic remains much better than Mint's software manager, (2) if one is using synaptic, or CLI, one is likely to choose the 'dropbox' package instead, especially since nautilus is . . not actually present on Mint.
EDIT: Another problem is that Dropbox can get stuck updating itself. The fix for that is the following, which manually downloads and updates Dropbox:
cd ~ && wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86_64" | tar xzf -
dropbox stop
~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd &
I will close this since it is not really a beta issue.
The icon for the popular Dropbox application is, every time I boot my computer, too small. (See to the immediate left of the yellow icon.)
