Because this really only seems to occur on Cinnamon and Mate, I cannot help but come to the conclusion that it is actually Cinnamon and Mate that are at fault rather than WINE.
(don't mind my derping at the 8:00 to 8:30 mark in the video - it was super late at night to the point of being more like early morning and I was being a sleep-deprived derp in terms of remembering how to properly associate checksum files with HashCheck Shell Extension without making all plain text files be opened in WINE)
