Describe the bug
Some updates were shown. I selected 'install updates'. Nothing happened. I pressed the button a few more times. Nothingness continued to happen.

To Reproduce
Unknown exactly - the problem has not happened before. But, grossly: the update manager had a red box; I clicked the manager panel icon; the manager opened; I clicked 'install updates' . .
Expected behavior
I expected updates to be installed.

Additional information:
Ending MintUpdate (via its tray menu) and restarting it resulted in MintUpdate telling me that all was up to date.
For its part though, apt showed the now slightly notorious 'shim-signed' package held back - and, in fact (though by 'apt' I mean sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade) various other updates. Wasn't there a move a while back to syncronise apt with mintUpdate?
