This may still be a bit buggy and my code mixes up the frontend and backend. You may look into this and tell me what I should change.

No longer need. The design for orphan management was changed for LMDE 6.

@clefebvre But why didn't you respond on https://github.com/linuxmint/lmde6-beta/issues/36, to integrate it into the update manager?
