Issue
Desktop icon of auto-mounted USB Drive; Compress option does not work.
Steps to reproduce
Insert a USB drive of any size and any format.
Right-click and select "Compress..."
Leave the defaults as they are and click [Create].
Expected behaviour
Taking this option should result in creating a file of the entered "Filename" and type, in the entered "Location". This does not happen.
Other information
Another user encountered the same issue. After initially having success with the option, it quick working at one point. See this forum thread: Compress option on USB drive
My test set involved the following:
Create a file using the "Compress" option from the desktop icon. This FAILS.
Create a file using the "Compress" from the file system. Going to Computer > File System, Media, , . then right-click, and select "Compress...". This WORKS.
Create a file using the "Compress" option from the file system. Double-click the desktop icon of the USB drive, select all files/folders, then right-click and select "Compress...". This WORKS.
I checked ~/.xesssion-errors and it produced no additional entries during my test set.
I checked /var/log/syslog and it produced additional entries during my test set. This file is attached as "syslog.txt". The additional entries are timestamped from Dec 1 11:41:28 thru Dec 1 11:45:10.
I tested USB drives of several sizes and formats but all exhibit the same behavior.
I tested with entering various "Filenames" and "Locations" but all exhibit the same behavior.
Configuration info, if applicable
I don't believe this is related to any particular configuration. This install is plain vanilla Linux Mint 21 with very little done to it -- added only a couple apps and otherwise just regular updates. It is installed as dual-boot on a Windows 10 system.
