Issue Error mounting an ISO file with Disk Image Mounter

Steps to reproduce

  1. Copy file with ISO extension to the Desktop
  2. Right-click on file, Open With, Disk Image Mounter
  3. Error occurs with the following dialog Disk Image Mounter

Expected behaviour Should be able to mount an ISO file with Disk Image Mounter

Other information Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon 4.8.6 Computer was upgraded from Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon (was not a fresh install) with apt install usrmerge Linux Kernel: 5.8.0-40-generic

Thank you

Should we format the computer with a fresh install on Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon? Could that solve this issue? Thank you

Do you have mount archive available on the right-click menu? The Disk Image Mounter also works on my recent upgrade. Is the ISO file known to be in the correct ISO format - such as a Mint download?

ItzSwirlz commented 3 years ago

Maybe there's a time limit for how long it takes to mount an ISO; maybe we should increase it, or even better, remove it.

The ISOs that we tried have filesizes 124.5 MB and 1.4 GB. Both files were able to be mounted on Linux Mint Cinnamon versions from 17.3 to 20. Unfortunately they don't mount with Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon. Is there a change/regression with mounting ISOs with Linux Mint 20.1? Thank you

Yes

The Disk Image Mounter also works on my recent upgrade.

Seems that it doesn't for for @AVE-RVV and unfortunately still doesn't work for us. We have tested on a few different computers without success.

Is the ISO file known to be in the correct ISO format - such as a Mint download?

Yes, we have used these ISO with Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon to Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon with all the versions in between with success.

TL;DR workaround: Use Linux Mint Kernel 5.4, not 5.8.

Booting Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon with Linux Kernel 5.4.0-64-generic works, i.e. Disk Image Mounter can mount the ISOs.

@Jeremy7701 does Disk Image Mounter work on your system if you are using the 5.8 branch of the linux kernel?

@icarter09 does this mean that the Gathering info tag can be removed?

Thank you

Jeremy7701 commented 3 years ago

I'm using the standard LMDE4 kernel - 4.19.0-13-amd64 x86_64 In a VM Mint 20.1 is using a 5.4.0-64-generic x86_64 kernel Disk Image mounter works in both varieties.

ovari commented 3 years ago

@Jeremy7701 our experience is consistent with yours. When using an older Linux kernel from the 5.4 series Disk Image Mounter works. When using a newer Linux kernel from the 5.8 series Disk Image Mounter does not work. Thank you for your reply.

ovari commented 3 years ago

@Jeremy7701 can you please confirm with your VM Mint 20.1 upgraded to a 5.8 series Linux kernel that the Disk Image Mounter does not work? Thank you

AVE-RVV commented 3 years ago

Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon 4.8.6 5.4 -ok 5.8- Error

Jeremy7701 commented 3 years ago

I have never used a non-recomended kernel upgrade before [over many years], but I loaded the latest listed kernel packages - linux + modules + headers into the VM - which BTW is the unstable 20.1 loaded from the Mint PPA - something else I wouldn't normally use. Seemed to go OK - 5.8.0-40-generic kernel.

Disk Image Mounter works perfectly
