+1 for this suggestion. I also use Geany quite a bit with many open tabs. Geany has a shortcut Ctrl-D which duplicates the current line WITHOUT disturbing the current selection or the clipboard. This is extremely convenient when migrating text between windows, tabs, or even between a main Xed instance and a VM
