Printing certain pdf files from xreader 3.6.3 results in lost data #588

 * Xreader version 3.6.3
 * Distribution - Mint 21.1

Issue Printing some PDF files (not all) results in loss of data on the printed pages. I've experienced this issue with a few PDF files. I am attaching one. These same PDF files print perfectly when using other applications, such as Okular and Firefox.

Steps to reproduce Open the attached PDF file in xreader. Note that the PDF file loads correctly, with no missing data. Print the PDF file to a printer. If you have no printer, select "Print to File" as your printer. Make sure "Output format" is set to "PDF" Compare the resulting printout with the original PDF Note that pages 2 through 9 all have missing data. Pages 1, 10-14 look ok.

Expected behaviour Obviously pages should not be missing data.

Other information Repeat the above steps, except print the PDF to a .PS file. Load the .PS file with xreader. Note there is no loss of data in the .PS file Printing the attached PDF file from Firefox or Okular show no loss of data.

Workaround My workaround for this issue is to load the PDF into Firefox and print it to another PDF file. The resultant PDF can then be used by xreader and it prints without data loss.

Two files attached. One is the original PDF and the other is that PDF printed from xreader showing the missing data.

Hi I have the same result with some PDF, in Mint Cinnamon 21.1, Xreader 3.6.3.Printing result sometime in some white fields... I' m in multiboot: if I try to print the same PDF in Ubuntu 24.04, or Mint cinnamon 20.3 (Xreader 3.2.2), or Mate 24.04, I have no problem. In Mint 21.1, if I print with other applications (Acrobat Reader under Wine, or Master PDF), no problem... I can't give a solution!...

I am having the same issue, but have a very specific scenario:

Distribution Mint 20.3

Package version 3.2.3+una (xreader)

Frequency Always

Bug description

The top third of the page of a PDF will print, leaving the rest blank. When I tried using Okular instead of xreader to open the PDF and then print, the top half of the page will print, and bottom half remains blank.

How PDFs are made: Scanned images, typically of text from a printed book, using an Epson Perfection V39, using Simple Scan software to capture and process images.

Then use xreader to open and print the PDF.

Steps to reproduce

Open any PDF document made from scanned images or text with one or more pages. (Or so I believe. I can supply test documents.)
Attempt to print them.

The printer, a Brother HL-2270DW, happily prints PDFs generated from web pages or email or any Libreoffice-generated document.

Expected behavior

Able to print PDFs that were generated from scanned images or text.

Additional information

The problem confounds and is serious if one needs to print a scanned document. This is most pressing during tax season.

The bug on the original post still exists in Xreader 4.0.2
