feature request: Xviewer to follow sort order of images in file manager #138

 * Xviewer version 2.8.3
 * Distribution - Mint 20.1 Cinnamon

If you open an image from the file manager (be it Thunar or Nemo) and click the "Next" (right arrow) button you always get the next image alphabetically. If you've chosen to sort your file manager display in some other way (by size or date modified for example) it would be good if the "Next" button could go to the next image in the file manager list.

Steps to reproduce Open Thunar/Nemo to a directory of images, sort the thumbnails by file size, open the smallest (top left thumbnail) in xviewer. Press the "Next" arrow. You get the next image alphabetically.

Expected behaviour You should get the next smallest image, (the thumbnail to the right of the current one in the file manager)

The same happens if you select several images to view simultaneously - you always step through them alphabetically.

I don't know if this is possible; this would require xviewer and the file manager to communicate when the "Next" button is pressed, maybe it doesn't work that way. I was going to file a bug, but for this reason I've gone with Feature Request instead.

I've asked for this before in a related issue (Link). Gwenview & Dolphin on KDE now offer such integration, so I don't see why it shouldn't be possible with Xviewer & Nemo.
