If Plex isn't working for you, I highly recommend checking out emby and thier sync client for Kodi - no subscription needed.
I'm not really sure what your asking for us to do tbh - what is skookum? We wouldn't look at developing an opensource alternative as we only package up other people's work into docker images.
To be fair there was alot of fluff. But here's the jist: "package up other people's work into docker images." "Which is why I think you guys should create an open source alternative." "informal adjective: skookum - (of a person or animal) strong, brave, or impressive."
Take a look at emby, we don't make a container for that as there is already a good one they provide officially.
Okay, thanks.
I haven't the slightest idea where this should go.
I've been working with your containers for the past few days. Once I got the kinks worked out of using cockpit, I was cooking with gas. Got Sonarr, Jackett, RUTorrent, and Plex all running and configured in a couple of hours.
So then I went to use a Plex plugin for Kodi. Requires a subscription or a once per device fee in order to use it. I so I tried the Plex client for Android. Until I create an account and logged into both devices, they would not connect. I abandoned the idea of Plex. I'm going to create my own container with one billionth the skookum-ness of a linuxserver.io container. Which is why I think you guys should create an open source alternative.
--------------------------- 6 Years Earlier ------------------------
I tried using Plex back in 2012. I had an XBOX Original and a PS3 for streaming content to. The XBOX could not handle anything above SD. So I looked at pushing the work off onto my newly acquired 3 year old server hosting 2 Opteron 2435 and 24GB of RAM and oodles of TB of disk. I tried Plex and I tried PS3 Media Server(PMS) - R.I.P. I settled on PMS for a few reasons. In 2008, I started a ill-advised project which was intended on being what YouTube is today ( ad revenue profit sharing from day one ). I had become quite experienced with ffmpeg so I preferred tweaking it rather than the klunky Plex.
------- Meanwhile, in the future of yesteryear ( today ) -------
I contacted the People of Universal Media Server and asked them if they could make something skookum in an LXC docker container image thing. Here I am poking you asking you to do the same free work I have not done myself yet. At least I've taken the first step - https://deis.com/blog/2015/creating-sharing-first-docker-image/.
The idea that you host all of your docker image source on github is awesome. I might try that.
