Tooltips don't display if "Keep PeerBlock on top" setting is enabled #55

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start PeerBlock or bring its window to the front.
2. Get some blocked entries into the log window.
3. Hover an entry's "Range"-column text whose title is too long to fit.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
A tooltip should pop up after a short time, showing the full title - but
that just doesn't happen anymore.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.9.2 (r86) on Vista x64 with SP2

Please provide any additional information below.
Earlier builds and also PeerGuardian show the full title as a tooltip, so I
guess a code-change broke this.

Cannot reproduce this. Try hovering over something in the taskbar and see if it
goes
behind. Seems to be quite a common problem in Windows. You need to restart your
machine to get it back on top if it happens.

Using Vista 32-bit SP2.

Did what you suggested and at first, I get the application's preview window and
after
about another second, I get the tooltip containing the title.

Though, I did not reboot (happens only once a week) until now - but since I
have to
check my hard disk for a possible RMA, I'll reboot right after posting this
comment.

Alright, had some major issue (lost my RAID 0, but luckily had some data
backup) and
therefore could not reply earlier..

I'm on a new and fresh Vista x64 with Service Pack 2 and the originally bug
reported
occurs again!

I can't reproduce this either, on Win7 x64 RC1. So long as the PeerBlock UI is
the
active window, the text in the "Range" field shows up as a tooltip. Will try to
repro this on Vista x64 and XP x86 when I get the chance.

You're not running any funky Windows theme or anything are you? Also, if you
increase the width of the "Range" field in the table, does the full name appear
in
the list then? Want to make sure it's just the tooltip that's incorrect, and
not
that it's for some reason truncating the text it puts into that field...

Did a quick test with the following range-description: IANA Reserved for
private use FNLC

The text is not truncated when the column is fully expanded to the whole
string..

However, I found the source of the bug: I recently ticked "Keep PeerBlock on
top" -
with this option being _unchecked_, the bug does not occur!

HTH..

Heh heh, yep, I can reproduce the bug now if I enable that setting. Looks like
that
setting works a bit *too* well - PeerBlock window is even being kept on top of
the
tooltips!

Marking this as a low-priority fix because it's cosmetic only; the program is
working
fine under the covers. Will try to look further into what we can do to make the
tooltips popup "more on top than the main window", but can't make any promises
as to
the timeframe for a fix.

Oh, and thanks for pinpointing the source of the bug!

Regarding comment #6: you don't need to hurry, because as you already
mentioned, it's
just cosmetic and I can live with it for awhile - the important thing is that
the bug
is confirmed and will be fixed! ;)

Regarding comment #7: "Always a pleasure!" 8)
