Describe the issue you're having:
LAV Splitter Source does not recognize MK3D, should behave identical to MKV

How can the issue be reproduced? Sample File?
Rename MKV file to MK3D

What version of the product are you using? In which Player?
LAV Filters 0.63, Player: MaxVR Oculus Rift Media Player

Please provide any additional information below.
I'm the developer of MaxVR, Its really strange. If I rename the MK3D file to
MKV the file loads correctly with the proper filter graph. If I rename a MKV to
MK3D, the filter graph fails to load properly. I use the LAV Splitter Source,
and attempt to connect output pins to LAV Video and LAV Audio.
So I'm guessing all that is needed is for LAV Splitter Source to treat MK3D
files the same as MKV when loading the video file.

Thanks

Depending on how you build the filter graph, the extension would be irrelevant,
as it can detect MKV files without knowing their name. The only place the
extensions are even used in LAV is in the installer, to hook up direct loading
of LAV Splitter Source to files with that extension - but its not strictly
required.

I've added the extension there in any case.
