There is an sharing desktop app, on which you play movie (eg in VLC and so on) this desktop app sends the stream to your headset, as well as provides the same stream to the friends. Bigscreen devs are using some kind of 3rd party streaming service, however it could be done directly, lets say if people connect to your room, stream channel from your desktop app will open also for them (may require to be some specific port open, but that is not an issue, everyone could do that).
