Do not use IcedTea plugin in the browser, it does not have the required Java
version for BigBlueButton (java 1.7.0 update 45).

I tried using the plugin with the latest Java update 1.7.0 update 51. It worked
in Firefox, not in Chrome.

My environment:
Ubuntu 12.10, Chrome Version 32.0.1700.77 and jre1.7.0_51, using the plugin libnpjp2.so

Did you click on Region or Full Screen?

What happens if you click on Region? It should display a blue box and a Start
button in the middle. You click on that button to start sharing.

If you don't see the blue box, please check you Java Console for logs and post
them here.

Can you click the "Test Java" link at the bottom of the screen. This will open
a new tab and let you confirm that you have (a) java installed, and (b) it's
version 7u45 (or later).

Same issue here with BBB running on a VM, accessed by local IP.

Tested with:

Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit
Oracle Java Version 7 Update 51
Chrome 32.0.1700.102 (PepperFlash Player 12.0.0.41)
Chromium 32.0.1700.102 (Adobe Flash Player 11.2 r202)

I get nothing in the Java Console at all in either, oddly enough. It's like
Java is either silently blocked or not getting called.

In Firefox it works perfectly, though it asks if it should allow Java to run.

There's no change clicking Region or Full Screen. The Test Java link confirms
v7 u51.

Hi Rlastinger,

This issue is about desktop sharing on Ubuntu. However, if your having
troubles on Mac OS X, check out the new tutorial videos we uploaded on desktop
sharing

  http://bigbluebutton.org/videos/

if you continue to have problems with using desktop sharing on Mac OS X, then
please post to bigblueutton-users

  https://groups.google.com/group/bigbluebutton-users/topics?gvc=2

for community support. If there is a bug in desktop sharing on Mac OS X, then
we'll open an new issue.

Hi all,

I can't operate desktop sharing on Mac OS X, even following the instructions in
the video just posted.

Here are the steps that lead to the problem:

(1) I click "Test Java" and I'm told that I have Java 8, so no problems.

(2) Then I click "Region," get asked about whether the site is a security
exception, and I say that it is. Then I'm told that "Desktop sharing requires
Java 7 update 51 (or later) to run."

I have exactly the same problem in Firefox and in Safari.

Hi, Phillip,

Your issue is not related to this open ticket, you are not using ubuntu or
chrome. If you are having issues with the java desktop sharing on Mac OS,
please open a new ticket. You may want to post to one of the making lists first.

Calvin.
